Pretty Little Liars

Hello Everyone!

On a Sunday afternoon back in 2010, I was flicking through various TV channels looking for something to watch when I stumbled across an episode of Pretty Little Liars. It was about the third or fourth episode of the first season and although I wasn’t entirely sure what was happening on the screen, I absolutely loved the episode and decided that I was going to continue to watch each episode. However, after about a month I ended up missing about 5 episodes and when I finally had time to watch it again, so much had happened in the episodes I had missed and I was so lost, so I ended up not bothering with it. That was until early last year, when TVD was on a break and I wanted to find and new program to watch. I spent a few months watching from the start of season 1 to the middle of season 7 and I was absolutely hooked.

I was quite sad to learn that the last episode of season 7 was the series finale but also waited eagerly to see what would happen to the girls in the final 10 episodes. If you haven’t watched any episodes of Pretty Little Liars, essentially it is about 4 girls called Hanna, Aria, Emily and Spencer who receive threatening text messages from someone under the alias ‘A’ after their friend Alison mysteriously disappears during a sleepover one night. The series follows the girls trying to figure out who could be sending these messages and why they are sending them. It is a series filled with love, death, mystery and countless unanswerable questions.

The series finale aired last Wednesday night in New Zealand and I was both sad and excited to watch the episode. I was excited to find out who the mysterious Uber A would be and what would happen to all the characters but after watching the episode, if I am completely honest, I was left feeling quite confused and slightly disappointed. Although I felt it was a good end to the series and I was really happy with where the girls ended up in the end, there was no shock when the big reveal finally happened and I found that so many questions that had popped up during the series were left unanswered. I later found out that the writers had to change the actor who turned out to be Uber A last minute, as the original actor was unavailable to film the scenes. Even though there were so many questions that hadn’t been answered by the end of the series, I feel that it wouldn’t be Pretty Little Liars without a little mystery.

Until next time,

The Next Step: Live

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are having a fantastic week so far, not too much longer until the weekend! For this weeks post I wanted to tell you about my experience seeing Disney’s The Next Step: Live last Friday night. I first watched this show early last year, and although I wasn’t too keen on it at first, before too long I was hooked. Yes, the target audience of this show is probably around ages 7-15 but there is just something the show that appeals to someone of my age.  If you haven’t heard of it, essentially it is a fiction documentary about a group of dancers at The Next Step dance studio in Canada who face everyday problems of being a teenager while also dancing in regional, national and even international dance competitions.

Although I am more than a few epsiodes behind on the show itself, I was so excited to hear that they were bringing the show to stages worldwide. I originally planned to get some tickets for my sister for her birthday but at $100+ for one ticket, we decided that the money would be best saved for another day. We were a little disappointed that we weren’t going as there were so many ads on TV showing how big of a performance it was going to be over the following few months, but we couldn’t really justify spending around $200 on a Disney show. So when the middle of April rolled around and we discovered that the tickets had dropped down to half price, we jumped at the chance to get our hands on some. And boy am I glad we did.

Even though there were a few mishaps on the way to the show ie. terrible weather, a late train and one of us sitting in grape juice (so thankful for black jeans), the show itself was incredible and if you ever have the chance to go to one yourself, I would highly suggest it. I wasn’t really sure what to expect as there are quite a few storylines on the show and not too much dancing nowadays but I assumed the show would be dance based, which it was but it had a surprising amount of comedy thrown into the mix. The performance itself was hosted by Disney’s Adam and Ash, who have an afternoon show in Australia and they did a few funny skits along with members of the cast which resulted in laughter around the whole theatre from people of all ages. As for the dancing, it was absolutely incredible. All of the dancers have so much talent and it was amazing to see that they are even more impressive in person.

Overall, I highly recommend going to see this show if you ever have the opportunity and I will not hesitate to go again if they ever find their way back to New Zealand.

Have you seen The Next Step: Live? What did you think of it? 🙂

The Vampire Diaries

Hello Everyone!

For the last 7 years, The Vampire Diaries has been my favourite TV series to watch. When I discovered the series back in 2010, it was well into its second season and even though I had missed so many important scenes from the first season and things were a little hard to follow, I was instantly hooked. There was just something about the chemistry between the actors and the drama filled storylines packed into each 42 minute episode that really drew me in.

I became an avid watcher of the series, tuning in every Friday night no matter what time it was airing, even when it began airing around 11pm during the fourth season. Eventually I started watching it on TVNZ On Demand as it was express from the US and it meant that I didn’t have to wait 6 months for it to arrive on NZ television. I received all of the seasons on DVD every single Christmas and have watched them all at least 6 times since receiving the first one in 2010.

If you’ve never seen or heard of The Vampire Diaries, essentially it is about a girl called Elena, who is alive but feels dead inside as her parents didn’t survive a car accident a few months earlier. When she returns back to school, she meets a vampire called Stefan who is literally (un)dead and together, they make each other feel alive. However, Stefans’ older brother Damon also falls for Elena, creating a love triangle that carries on well into the series. The storylines also include Elenas’ brother Jeremy, her friends Matt, Bonnie, Tyler and Caroline and a large array of good and evil vampires from Stefan and Damons’ past.

As the years went on, the storylines got even more complex and even though a few seasons got a little bit boring, I still watched every single episode and there was always at least one scene that I loved in every episode. After 8 years full of mystical creatures such as witches, werewolves, ghosts, vampire hunters and many, many more, The Vampire Diaries finally reached its heartbreaking series finale last week.

When I found out that season 8 would be it’s last, I instantly wondered about how it would end. Would Bonnie have a happy ending? Who would Damon and Stefan end up with? Would past characters return for a final goodbye? Now, I’m not going to spoil anything here in case you do watch it and haven’t seen the final episode yet, but I will say that it is an emotional rollercoaster and you will definitely need a box of tissues nearby. I feel that they wrapped up the end of the series perfectly and although I am very sad to say goodbye to the series that has been a part of my life for the past 7 years, it really was the perfect way to say goodbye.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will re-watch season 1-8 of The Vampire Diaries many, many times throughout my life, and I highly recommend that you give it a watch if you haven’t seen it, as you may end up loving it just as much as I do.

Looking Back: 2016

Hello Everyone!

I hope the new year is treating you well so far 🙂 I thought I would use this post as an opportunity to review 2016 as a whole and discuss the highs and lows of how the year was to me personally. Although alot of bad things happened around the world and 2016 has been named the worst year in history, quite a few good things happened in my life last year and I would like to reflect on these 🙂

Although so many good things happened in my life last year, I just want to talk about the main three that really stand out to me. The first good thing to happen last year, was being able to leave a job that really wasn’t bringing any happiness into my life. There wasn’t really an aspect of the job that I enjoyed and I ended up coming home at the end of everyday, miserable. Although it meant that I wasn’t getting anywhere near the same amount of income, I feel that this was one of the best decisions I could have made because I am alot happier now. Leaving also gave me the opportunity to start studying a diploma in interior design, which although it can be difficult at times, I quite enjoy being able to draw floor plans and colour schemes as it brings back memories of my favourite subject at school. I count this as another good thing in my life as it has given me an insight into a job that I might like to do in the future. The third good thing that happened last year, is starting this blog 🙂 This was also one of the best decisions I could have ever made, it has brought me alot of joy over the past year and I feel that it has really helped to improve my writing skills, something that I wasn’t very good at while at school. It has also helped me re-discover my love of baking and sewing and being able to share it with all of you, adds an extra ray of light to my life.

Easter 2016

The good things that have happened over the past year, definitely outweight the bad things, but I feel like I should mention a few of these as well. I think the first bad thing is that although I went to alot of interviews, I was unable to find a replacement job to help with my finances. This is one of my main prioties for 2017. The second bad thing that I would like to mention is that I feel that 2016 was by far my unhealthiest year yet, I talked a bit more in detail about this in my last blog post which you can find here: Resolutions and Birthday Fun, so I’m not going talk about much about it here. However, I would like to add that this is also one of my main prioties to change in 2017 and I really hope that I can achieve this.

Spring 2016

I would also like to mention a few things that made me really happy throughout 2016. The first of which, is having celebrated 5 years with my boyfriend in September. We didn’t do much to celebrate the milestone as he had to work, but we did exchange a few gifts and it was a lovely day nonetheless. The second thing that made me happy this year, was being followed by Sabrina Carpenter on Pinterest. Although she is not that well known by people above the age of 20, it was quite exciting to be followed by a celebrity 🙂 Another thing that made me really happy during 2016 was receiving almost 700 views on my blog 🙂 this may not sound like alot to some of you but it is so many more views than I could have ever imagined receiving in just 9 months and I would like to thank you all so much.

Guy Fawkes 2016

There aren’t that many sad moments from 2016 that really stand out to me apart from losing our family cat in September. I feel that this needs a mention as it was quite a big change to occur and I still miss her so much and will never forget her. RIP TC.

January 1999 – September 2016

I feel as though this wouldn’t be a complete yearly review without mentioning a few of my favourite things from 2016. I’m going to leave these in list form as I’m sure I’ve mentioned all of them at least once in most of my previous blog posts.
